hi again!

i have been working in this industry since 2019, starting my own design studio in 2023. i've always been drawn to nature and the ephemeral beauty that it creates. this pull to the natural world dictates my design style, as i love to create organic, vegetative works of art. in 2023, i decided to pursue my European Masters Certification out of brugge, belgium. i was gifted a scholarship by Smithers-Oasis, and successfully graduated that fall. EMC created a strong fundamental basis in design that i use, instilling into me the language and understanding of how different elements and principles interact to create meaningful works. i continue to pursue new educational opportunities in the floral industry, as it is important for me to continue to grow and evolve and change just as our natural world does.

because my design is so inspired by nature, i have always found it very important to work as sustainably as possible. we need to protect our planet! for me, this means using mechanics that are reusable or compostable whenever possible. it also means buying locally grown flowers to design with. we are so lucky to live in a state where we have a plethora of different local flower farmers who grow stunning blooms all throughout our season. although it isn't possible to source locally 100% of the time (especially creating in our winter filled minnesota!), i make a strong effort to buy us grown whenever possible rather than importing from far away.

my name is jack nelson, and i am the creative visionary of studio wysp. at the core of my design, i work knowing that flowers are one of the unspoken languages of human emotion. whether that is joy, excitement, sorrow, or anything in between- flowers allow us to express these feelings intimately simply by existing. i use my knowledge of the elements and principles of design to help you communicate the energy you want to convey with your event. sometimes that looks like doing a deep dive into your color palette, choosing contrasts in texture or form, and it can even look like crafting something wonderfully asymmetrical. the possibilities are truly endless, and i will always use my mastery of this craft to deliver exceptional design that reflects your own personal emotions.
